It's a show. What we found fun 5 years ago, can be meaningless now. Also, One of the episodes Matt Groening didnt like, is The principal and the pauper.
Like some kids show when you are like 2-3 they can be fun, it becomes meaningless or childish when you are 7-8.

I mean... The simpsons cant have a static number of views, it must get new people watching it too!.

The new simpsons had a good run but out of respect for the show they should have stopped at season 15? 20? Season 18 however I must say had some good episodes. These new episodes are just odd. Such meaninglessness. Total nihilism I tells ya, Nihilism!
